Making Non-heritage Palm Grass Weaving "Animal World" with Brown Braiding to Rediscover Childhood Memories

Rattan weaving is one of the traditional handicrafts of the Han nationality in China, and it is also part of intangible cultural heritage. It is made from palm leaves and can be used to make various animal or insect toys. Each production process has different techniques, and the shapes and styles vary.

When summer comes, palm leaves turn into birds, bringing back memories. It is an art at your fingertips.

Production process:

1. Collect a suitable amount of palm leaves.

2. Prepare the necessary tools (palm leaves, small knives, scissors).

3. Cut palm leaves to the appropriate length.

4. Split the palm leaf in half and keep the stalk for later use.

5. Take one palm leaf and make a circle, pierce another leaf, and press one end under the leaf.

6. Wrap the lower leaf around the circle and press it, then pass another palm leaf through the circle from below.

7. Tighten the four leaves and adjust the shape.

8. Cut a triangle for easy insertion.

9. Cut a slit on the leaf and thread the leaf through it and tighten it. Repeat on the other side.

10. Trim the bird's head and cut the tail into a beard shape. The bird's body is complete.

11. Tie a knot at one end of the stem, and thread the other end through the bird's body.
